It made for an interesting change of pace - at first it didn't grab me the way the others did, but it definitely grew on me after a while. Now you could explore this huge mansion, and the game played more like Final Fight or Streets Of Rage than the previous games. and when it dies, it splatters the screen with blood. You have to hack up hanging mutant fetuses with a chainsaw, then defeat this thing that breaks through the wall. It definitely has it's moments as well - take the "murder shed", for example. I like it just that much better than 3 simply because it's closer to the original than 3 was. You might think that an SD Splatterhouse game wouldn't be any good, but Namco did a great job with it.
It's the only 8-bit Splatterhouse (it only came out for the Famicom), and it's one of the most hilarious games I've ever played. If you haven't played this yet - and I'm guessing a lot of you haven't - go download it and give it a shot. The Turbo game was pretty close to the arcade game, just lacking some of the extra graphic detail and sound effects that the arcade had.Īfter that comes Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Grafitti. why they won't release it on some kind of compilation pack is beyond me. I consider it to be one of Namco's finest games. For my choice, I had to pick the original arcade game - everything about it is damn near perfect, from the overall B-movie atmosphere, to the selection of weapons, character design and more that I won't go into here.
